Something Good ‘08 Day 3 plus random sketches

January 4th, 2009

The more finished it gets, the less dynamic the pose. I have to work on that.

Something Good Sketch Week Day 2

January 3rd, 2009

Day 2 - still playing with the pose, and working on the hand.

I also left the old picture behind the new one, so it kinda ghosted through.

Pencils, scanners, and Gimp.

“…Like he was floating on air.”

First sketch week of ‘09 and I’m going back to Something Good ‘08, by Utah Saints. I decided this sketch week, I’m doing something different, I’m going to work one drawing to a completed state. I’m starting with the rough idea here.

Just in case you have no idea what this is about, have a youtube video…

Happy New Year

December 31st, 2008

It’s New Year’s Eve, and it’s time for New Year’s resolutions. I’m going to be stupid and document mine right here.

  • First week of every month will be sketch week. I’ll post a drawing a day as long as I’m able to get online. If I’m no where near an internet connection, I’ll still sketch and post later.
  • Go to the life drawing thing on Tuesday at the Palo Alto art center.
  • Actually post some stuff on some of the boards I frequent (deviantArt, Manga Bullet, The Drawing Board, BAUU). At least come up with an avatar for those boards.
  • Customize the appearance of my blogs,

I’m also going to try to get in shape, but I’m not about to make that a resolution.

Happy New Year!

Merry Christmas!

Hot Linking Aftholes

December 13th, 2008

I just found all the recent links to my site were hotlinks of one my images. Unfortunately, it was of happy cat. Well, no more posting popular internet images. In the meanwhile,  we’ve replaced that image with the following images, let’s see if they notice the difference….

Hotlinking domains/threads available on request. I’m working on setting up a site wide protection

Update - I’ve decided to be less mean, and gone with this image…

12/08/08 sketch

The great thing about doing a sketch week is that it forces me to draw and post something. No matter how rough the day, I have to draw something. I might not have done any great works this time around, but at least I’m seven sketches closer.

Lessons learned? I need to practice hands. I need to post something more regularily. Fan art is fun, and a good learning exercise.

Wacom and Painter again… I need to find that power supply for my old scanner.

Sketch 12/07/08 - More Fan Art

12/07/08 Sketch

Almost didn’t post a sketch tonight. The toilet backed up and I had to go out and snake my sewer pipe. It was a series of events that I’d rather not go into. Yes, I’ve done this enough times that I have my own power snake to snake my pipes with.

Tonight’s is a piece of fan art for Evil Diva by Pete Menotti (writer/creator) and Brinson Thieme (artist). It’s one of the web comics I read on a regular basis.

Back to the Tablet PC and ArtRage. Painter and my Wacom are acting weird lately.

Google Confusion

December 7th, 2008

Google has this feature, start typing and it tries to guess what you’re typing.  This morning I started typing… I can’t remember what, but it started with the letter “i” and it suggested “indian railway”. I just spent a couple of minutes trying to figure out why I’d searched for Indian Railways. Indian music? Sure, but railways? I’m not into trains.

and now for something completely different, digital water colors. I did most of my other sketches on newsprint with a ballpoint pen. One pretty good drawing, but it was kind of a dark subject matter.
